Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited’s Jionet will provide cricket fans with free high-speed WiFi during the upcoming T20 World Cup, followed by the IPL (Indian Premier League).

The company has set up high-speed Access Points (APs) at six stadiums in India. Stadiums which will offer the free Wi-Fi service are Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, Dharmashala’s Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, New Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla and also Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Reliance had recently tested the service during a cricket match at Wankhede, and claims that it saw over 22 TB of data get downloaded via its networks. Reliance JioNet says it will offer download speeds of 50 mbps at these stadiums.

Reliance JioNet will be free for all users in the stadium and the company plans to use state-of-the-art Wi-Fi access points (APs) that will cover the entire stadium. Reliance says that the High-Density Wi-Fi (HD Wi-Fi) it is using creates lots of small radio footprints so as to be able to cater to more people.

After connecting to the Reliance JioNet WiFi, users will have to generate an OTP (sent via SMS) and they will be required to enter this for log-in. The OTP is valid for 24 hours, after which one can again request for a new code. The system automatically logs out the user if there is no internet activity for 30 minutes.

Reliance is expected to fully roll-out its Jio network with high-speed 4G Internet, VoLTE calls in the second half of 2016. Reliance has already made the service live for its employees in Mumbai.
