New Mahindra Thar launched for Rs 8.25 lakh
Mahindra is also offering customization options for the Thar at an added cost. One can get all the modifications done at the dealer or receive the parts in form of kits and do it themselves.
The Mahindra Thar has over time proven it’s off the road prowess well. Where it did miss out though was finesse. In short the interiors were best referred to as bare basic. However all that has changed now with the launch of this refreshed version.
Ex: Showroom (Price)
Chandigarh – Rs 8.21 lakh
Pune – Rs 8.04 lakh
New Delhi – Rs 8.25 lakh
Bangalore – Rs 8.29 lakh
Chennai – Rs 8.32 lakh
The new Thar comes with minor modifications to the exteriors. This comes in form of a new plastic cladding over the wheel arches. The bumpers are plastic as well. Mahindra has also added new clear lens headlamps and side steps as well. The canopy now features a more user-friendly design.
The major change though comes on the inside. The Thar gets a brand new dash in beige tone which has slots for a 2 Din audio system. The centre console also gets built in air con vents with the controls positioned right below. The steering wheel is new as well. The instrument console is now a three pod affair with the speedo taking centre stage. Other amenities added to the Thar include a lockable glove-box, a windshield demister and a 12v charging point. A floor console has also been added which offers the convenience of twin cup holders along with the gear lever and the 4wd shifter. The seats have been refurbished too and as a result the Thar looks more upmarket now.
However it is not just cosmetics which have been worked upon in the Thar. Considering that most owners dwell off the road with their Thars, Mahindra has added a mechanical locking rear differential which allows ever better off road capabilities. Power continues to come from the 2.5-litre CRDe engine which offers 105bhp and 247Nm of torque. The transfer case continues to be the tried and tested BorgWarner unit with high and low reduction gear.
The Thar is priced at Rs 8.25 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi and all these upgrades will be limited to the CRDe version only and that means if you are in the market for the DI version, you will have to live with the older scheme of things. Mahindra is also offering customization options for the Thar at an added cost. One can get all the modifications done at the dealer or receive the parts in form of kits and do it themselves.
