Infosys to construct connecting corridor for medical college
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Infosys has signed an MoU with the Medical College Hospital here, for constructing a connecting corridor between the hospital buildings. Infosys Kerala Development Centre head Sunil Jose signed the MoU with Dr Thomas Mathew, principal, medical college here on Wednesday.
As per the MoU, Infosys will construct the connecting corridor at an estimated Rs 4 crore and will hand it over within the three months once the work begins.
The corridor, a long-pending demand of the patients and the doctors, will be connecting the new outpatient block and the old block consisting of wards.
The patients were facing severe difficulties for going for tests and other investigations from the OP block since they have to be brought to the other building through the road. With the new connecting corridor coming up, the patients can be brought across the road through wheel chair or stretcher without any hitch.
“This would be a big relief for the patients and doctors. They were facing severe hardships since they have to cross the road now when there is heavy traffic. The patients who are unable to walk were the most affected”, said Dr Thomas Mathew, principal of medical college.
This is the first such project under the corporate social responsibility programme of the Infosys foundation which is headed by Sudha Murthy.
As per the project, there will be two walkways connecting the first and second floors of the two buildings. The length of the each connecting corridor will be 100 metres.
“We aim to complete the construction within 120 days once the work starts,” said Sunil Jose.
The project has been given for the final clearance from the public works department. and the construction will be carried out by Infosys. Once completed it would be handed over to the medical college authorities.
